(CHARLOTTE MARIE SMITH)
-----------------------
Charlotte hated going to work, it was so boring and uneventful. Plus, it was no secret that she couldn’t pay attention for long periods of time. She was used to spending most of her time with her brother’s friends who were always looking to have fun by going on adventures or getting into trouble. Charlotte paid her dues a long time ago when she was fifteen so she was accepted as part of the group, even if Gavin was twenty one and she was only eighteen. They were close enough in age to know the same people, like the same music, and the same things. However, most of her friends didn’t go to school as they were hellbent on being the next best alternative rock band. They were silly but they were cute and fun as well, so she couldn’t help going to all of the shows they played at the local bars and venues in Westfield. Unfortunately, Charlotte didn’t have a musical bone in her body and could barely play chopsticks on the piano but she liked what she heard from them. If they didn’t make it big, they would make it somewhere else and Colorado wasn’t the best place for musical people anyway. They needed to go to New York or California to really succeed.
Walking along the sidewalk, Charlotte made her way into town. Her car had been wrecked when she loaned it to one of her idiot friends who decided to drive it drunk. Their family had money but Charlotte’s father wasn’t too pleased with the decisions she made so he was going to punish her by not buying a new one. It was fine though since town wasn’t that far and she had Gavin to drive her when he wasn’t working himself. Charlotte hated working at the local coffee shop, but it was all that she could do right now. She was taking a semester off to decide what she really wanted to do in college. Art was a big possibility but her dad made it clear he wasn’t going to pay for her to learn about cubism, because he didn’t understand it. Other than going to work and hanging out with her slacker friends, life was pretty mundane. There was no excitement at all but that wasn’t something that could be helped. It wasn’t like she can go out and do anything reckless cause that was no fun when you were alone.
Just as she was walking and thinking, she got the feeling she was being watched. Brushing a lock of hair behind her ear, she glanced over her shoulder but saw nothing odd. Everything looked perfectly fine with people going about their business. Shrugging it off, she continued onward passing store fronts and crossing streets to get to the little coffee shop. However, that funny feeling made her tummy do flip floppies and this time she couldn’t shake it… something wasn’t right. She had made this very trip to and from work countless times before but she couldn’t understand what made today so different and why a small ping of paranoia was bothering her. Adrenalin filled her fingers as the fight of flight feeling set in. It was confusing as there was no one to fight or flee from. Why was this happening?
